Happy New Year!

The year started off with amazing good news for yours truly (crusty veteran novelist of more than 20 years). My 2006 novel, THE CROSSROADS CAFÉ, reached No. 1 on the Amazon Kindle list, also No. 1 on the general Amazon romance list.

This sudden surge in sales started with an after-Christmas promotion my press, BelleBooks, decided to try. Since the Kindle e-reader was a huge gift item this year, we figured the new Kindle owners would be eager to download free books. We put five titles up for free starting December 26: my THE CROSSROADS CAFÉ, our first book in the Mossy Creek series, MOSSY CREEK, Gayle Trent's cozy mystery, MURDER TAKES THE CAKE, Carolyn McSparren's women's fiction novel, ALL GOD'S CREATURES, and Kalayna Price's debut urban fantasy, ONCE BITTEN.

We hoped for a little publicity, that's all. Lo and behold, all five titles immediately shot up the Kindle list (and also the print bestsellers' lists) and four took up residence in the TOP TEN.

THE CROSSROADS CAFÉ has hovered at No. 2 since last Saturday, and finally, now, New Year's Day, became No. 1.

I'm doing the happy dance! I've never been No. 1 on a national list before, and even though this doesn't totally count, since the book is a freebie, I'm thrilled with the accomplishment.

Our print sales in general have risen significantly, we've gotten some great publicity on blogs and at the Gallery Cat media site, and readers who never heard of us before are writing to say they're now fans.

All in all, a great start to the new year for me and for BelleBooks! Onward!
